My eulogy to my oldest and dearest friend

Created by Kate one month ago
I met Brett for the first time when I changed Classic A Level class - next to him was the only seat free. We first started talking when he was accused of copying my homework. On February 9th 1991 we started going out following a part we attended with a few friends. The following year was the year  he showed me his "running man" dance to PM Dawn, I will never get that image from my mind!, he showed me his amazing talent for the English language in the letters he wrote me and lots lots more
And then it ended. I was heartbroken. He was my first boyfriend, my first love.

Fast forward to 2005, we reconnected through Friends Reunited (pre Facebook) and met up for a drink. 8 hours later we left as friends. It was shortly after that he was telling me of a party and a girl he'd met. Then he told me he was moving to Exeter to be with that girl, Helen. And shortly after that he told me he was a dad. I was so happy for him. I knew he always wanted to be a dad more than anything.
Sadly, life got in the way and we didn't really talk past happy birthday and happy new year texts. That is until March 2021.
We were both going through a tough time and he reached out following a post I put up on Facebook.

I'm so glad he did. If he hadn't I would never have known what an amazing man he was, what such a kind, supportive friend he was, what a great dad he was, I'd never have heard of how proud he was of Oliver - how impressed he was of the young man Oliver was becoming. I'd never have heard about all his stories from the many varied jobs he'd had. If Brett had never had reached out that March day, I would have had a hole in my life, that I didn't know I had until he filled it with his unconditional friendship.

Thank you for being my friend Brett. I will cherish that forever
